A fun fact about FooEvents is that our customers are globally dispersed and, for many, English is not their first language. This means that a considerable number of customers use the FooEvents back-end in English rather than their native tongue, which can be really challenging.
It’s no surprise then, that we get a lot of support requests for FooEvents translations and it never felt right telling customers that we only supported English while explaining the process to translate the plugins for themselves.
With customer satisfaction and ease of use in mind, we recently got to work creating language files for the plugins in the most commonly spoken languages based on our customer demographics.
We’re pleased to announce that the most recent update of the FooEvents plugins (and all updates going forward) come bundled with the following language files:
- Afrikaans (af)
- Catalan (ca)
- Czech (cs_CZ)
- German (de_AT, de_CH, de_DE)
- Spanish (es_AR, es_CL, es_CO, es_CR, es_DO, es_EC, es_ES, es_GT, es_HN, es_MX, es_PE, es_PR, es_UY, es_VE)
- French (fr_BE, fr_CA, fr_FR)
- Italian (it_IT)
- Dutch (nl_BE, nl_NL)
- Portuguese (pt_BR, pt_PT)
Once you’ve installed or updated to the latest version of the plugins, all you need to do in order to use FooEvents in one of the above languages is set the language on your WordPress installation to the same language as the translation file. For instructions on how to do this visit – How do I get WordPress to use my language?
Please contact us to request additional languages that you would like to be bundled with the plugins or to report errors or inaccuracies with the bundled language files.
Custom Language files
If you would like to make edits to the bundled translation files or create FooEvents translations for a different language, you can use a free application such as Poedit to achieve this.
Read the Custom Language files help document for steps on how to create, export and upload the translation files to WordPress.
Event Translations
In addition to providing support for your preferred language in the back-end, FooEvents also integrates with WordPress Multilingual (WPML) which automatically translates your event content into different languages on the front-end of your site. This is super useful if your events have a diverse target audience or you are looking at expanding your business into a foreign market.
Read the WPML help document for more information on how to use FooEvents together with WPML.
